It’s beginning to look alot like Christmas!!!

Christmas is almost here everyone!!!

We’ve decked the halls. Not with holly but with lights and tinsel haha.

We’re dreaming of a white christmas but we don’t mean snow. We mean white clouds instead of grey ones… although we do have snowmen hanging around

Santa Claus is coming to town but we can’t find the suit so he may come dressed in Scuba!

We have many trees to choose to “rock around” as it is the national decoration of choice throughout the city. However, the “jingle bells” are still just the sound of car horns and revved motorbikes passing by.

So how is Christmas celebrated in a place like Timor Leste-

Well for starters it is a Catholic country so Christmas is a big deal ande despite the influx of the western ideas it remains fundamentally a religious holiday.

The majority of local people go to church either on Christmas Eve night or Christmas day in the morning.

Additionally, there are plenty of the Christmas hymms translated into the local language: Tetum. Plus you’d really be surprised how many Christmas trees are dotted around the city (not real pine trees).

There is also the feeling of it being a time for family with many locals traveling back to theri districts for visits.

A lot of government offices are closed for the festive period. Whilst most shops and even restaurants will usually close at least on the 25th for the day, also on New Years Day.

And what about OUR Christmas?

For us at Dreamers Dive Academy Timor we are taking Christmas and New Year’s day off to enjoy family that is visiting. Also this year most of our divers are not in Timor Leste for the holidays so it’s a great oppotunity for a well earned break after a year well done.

There is still diving inbetween though if you are here 🙂

We want to take this opportunity to thank every single person who dived, snorkeled, bought a t-shirt, listened to a presentation, got their equipment serviced or liked us on social media. From all of us here a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year which of course we hope to see you in. 2019 looks to be bringing some new and exciting ventures for our company and we are very much looking forward to it all.

Please stay updated with our ventures and adventures of 2019
